December 1st through 7th is National Hand Washing Week. This news has come too late for a small facility in Bloomer, Wisconsin, which has over half of their patients infected with norovirus, a serious stomach virus with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Not the sort of publicity you want for your facility.
Our staff development coordinator just put new handwashing signs on display with a cleaver acronym:
CHAMPS! Clean Hands Are Making Patients Safer!
